Projects / HP Labs Storytelling
HP Labs India was the third global research lab of HP, with a focus on technology research, innovations and solutions for emerging markets. It developed a number of low-cost but high-impact innovations, and wanted to display and demonstrate some of these in a 600-sq.ft. showcase that could host schoolchildren to rural development workers, and government functionaries to corporate leaders - besides of course R&D engineers and scientists.
HP Labs offered this as a turnkey project to Srishti, to be undertaken by students under the leadership of senior faculty. In response, the school timetabled an entire semester for senior students of Visual Communication Design for this project, as a course in Exhibition & Information Graphics Design. The students received the brief, compiled the necessary information and developed various design approaches and options for the showcase, presented in the form of scale-down but detailed cardboard models. The design that was eventually chosen was inspired by children’s cut-out books, involving life size scenarios for the use of each show-cased innovation, strung together by a loose ‘day-in-the-life’ narrative of a typical semi-urban Indian.
