Since 2007, Nokia’s Satellite Design Studio and Research Centre has initiated various projects involving mapping Indian culture & lifestyle trends and generating creative responses that can feed new product & service opportunities. Nokia proposed setting up a satellite design studio - it’s first outside of North America and Europe - as an embedded research and design lab inside Srishti. This became a hub for Nokia researchers and designers to visit and work with Srishti faculty and students on projects of their interest.

The projects were varied both in terms of duration and emphasis, and included ethnography, trend studies and design explorations of product form as well as interface design. Nokia also used this space as a residency for some of its top talent to get introduced to the emerging market environment and socio-cultural-economic context. Many participating students were subsequently inducted into Nokia Research or Nokia Design as staff or interns.
